Most of the global car rental chains operate at Budapest Airport and Keleti Station. However, we recommend not renting a car but better using public transport - metro, trains and buses - to get around Budapest and its surroundings. Public transport is very cheap and relatively reliable.
When travelling from Vienna and other airports, you can rent a car directly at the airport, but it's a good idea to book in advance or use a price comparison site such as rentalcars.com. The cheaper car rental companies are not located directly in the arrivals halls; you have to use the shuttle bus and drive to a more distant car park.
Keep in mind that rental cars are usually not equipped with a Hungarian vignette. This can be bought electronically. Check the traffic regulations in Hungary.
